Theodosius II (402-450). AV Solidus, Constantinople mint, 430-440 AD. Obv. DN THEODOSIVS PF AVG. Pearl-diademed, helmeted and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder and shield decorated with horseman motif. Rev. VOT XXX MVLT XXXX I. Constantinopolis seated left, left foot on prow, holding sceptre and globus cruciger; shield at her side; star to right; in exergue, CONOB. RIC X 257; Depeyrot 81/1. AV. 4.35 g. 20.00 mm. A choice example, superb and brilliant, with underlying luster. Almost invisible graffiti in obverse right field, otherwise about EF/EF.
