Greek Italy. Southern Lucania, Metapontum. AR Nomos, c. 400-340 BC. Obv. Head of Demeter right, wearing diadem decorated with ivy leaves; [ΠOΛY on truncation of neck ?], Σ to left. Rev. Ear of six-grained barley, with leaf to left; traces of uncertain symbol (owl ?) above leaf. Cf. HN Italy 1532; Cf. Noe 464g; Cf. SNG Lockett 394. AR. 7.31 g. 21.50 mm. R. Rare. Lovely style, brilliant and lightly toned. Minor corrosion spots on obverse, otherwise. good VF/VF.
