Lot 36: An Etruscan bronze siren.
Central Italy, circa 5th-4th century BC.
Cast solid bronze. Modeled in a form of a couchant siren with forepaws raised, her head facing, the hair falling in long tresses onto the shoulder, the wings are closed and finely detailed with incision. Original hole on tail for anchoring. 6.5 cm high. 8.5 cm length.
The siren is a mythological creature that was part woman and part bird often had funerary connotations.
Wonderful and untouched green patina.
